Today we’re gonna be breaking down exactly what makes him so interesting and by the end you’ll understand his full backstory, the nature of his abilities and the sad reason why Makima ruined his life. Originally when the Angel devil first reincarnated on earth he was born on a tropical island with no memory of his past life, and it didn’t take long for him to blend in with the local village. Unlike most devils he never had the urge to kill anyone, since it was confirmed in chapter 34 that devils who look human tend to be more friendly towards people. That’s why in this tropical paradise he was able to make friends with the villagers, who taught him how to speak their language and built him his own house. Eventually he also got into a relationship with one of the local women and it seemed like he had a peaceful existence where most of his days were spent either swimming or relaxing on the beach. However this all began to change when Makima arrived, and for those who don’t know Makima is a high ranking devil hunter that works for the Japanese government. Her motivation for tracking him to this remote village is revealed later in the series, where it’s explained that during his previous life in hell, Angel was a loyal disciple of the chainsaw devil. For Makima’s own reasons she’d been searching for the Chainsaw devil for a long time and along the way she hunted down seven of his disciples, with Angel now being the eighth. Following a brief introduction she uses her abilities to force him to demonstrate his power, and while under her control the Angel Devil massacres the entire village including his girlfriend. Impressed by his raw talent Makima then erased his memory and brings him to Tokyo, where he’s made to work as a devil hunter alongside other former disciples of Chainsaw Man. Before we go any further though it’s probably best that we explain what his amazing power is, since Makima even said that his potential makes him the strongest agent they have. To put it simply the Angel devil has 3 unique abilities, the first of which is that he drains the life force of any human he touches. By making even the smallest contact with someone he instantly decreases their lifespan, and if that contact is maintained for too long the person he’s touching will eventually die. This is the method that was used to wipe out his home village when Makima was controlling him and on a separate occasion, Aki’s lifespan was reduced by two months after the two of them briefly touched hands. A quirk like this makes Angel one of the most dangerous characters to be around but in a similar way to Rogue from the X-men movies, he hates his powers and usually avoids touching people unless he has to. Now moving on to his 2nd ability, the Angel Devil can create supernatural weapons that are made from the life force of his victims. As an example, when he drained his girlfriend he probably stole at least 40-50 years from her lifespan and then when he was ready, he used 10 of those years to produce this magical sword. Here we can see that a halo is used to generate these new weapons and their supernatural power varies depending on how many years were needed to manifest it. In chapter 35 a katana that Angel made was used to kill a devil that should’ve been impossible to cut through and in chapter 60 he used 5 years of life to create a different sword that slices people without leaving a scratch. These were both clear demonstrations of his insane potential but there’s a good reason why he generally doesn’t like producing these weapons. When Angel was first introduced he had at least 1120 years worth of life that he’d absorbed from other people and he later confessed how these victims would sometimes haunt him in his dreams. #chainsawman

Alright so the core of this theory begins with the Angel devil who’s the one character that can help us link all the evidence together. In chapter 53, in which Fujimoto used his messenger devil to fundamentally change our understanding of the Chainsaw Man universe. Up until that chapter, all we knew about this world is that it’s an alternate version of Earth where these devils live alongside humanity. Beyond that our knowledge of this universe was nothing, but in chapter 53 Angel opened our eyes when he revealed the existence of a place called hell. Now I’m sure most of you watching agree it can’t be a coincidence that Angel, the character with the most blatant connection to Christianity, was the one chosen to explain that hell is a real dimension. Personally I think the reason Fujimoto chose him was to demonstrate that Angel is someone we can trust in relation to biblical topics and when the story then physically took us to hell it proved that everything we heard from him was correct. Bearing this in mind, a major detail in the manga that was super easy to miss, is that in chapter 49, Angel already confirmed that heaven exists as well. In this scene a dying woman reaches out to him during her final moments and he then bends down, holds her hand and says to her “it’s okay, you’re going to heaven.”. If any other character had said these words honestly I wouldn’t have really cared, but for the Angel Devil, someone who’s name has links to both heaven and hell; and someone who revealed that at least one of those dimensions is real, we need to take it seriously. If we assume for a second that Angel is foreshadowing heaven in the same way he foreshadowed hell, then this genuinely helps to explain all the mysteries we talked about in the intro. Something you need to know is that within Christian mythology, Angels in heaven are divided into 9 separate rankings. Each of those rankings has it’s own unique name and what’s amazing is that when we look into the followers of Chainsaw man, all of their names are directly connected. For instance, the highest ranked Angels in the bible are the seraphim who are are the ones closest to GOD, and in this panel, it’s the devil called Seraphim was the one closest to Denji. As you can see, seraphim is also the only one of Chainsaw Man’s followers who doesn’t seem to be broken in some way, demonstrating that he is the strongest in the group. If we then switch over to the opposite side of the hallway, the Angel Devil represents the two weakest ranks in heaven, which are the Angels and the Archangels. In my opinion this story choice was a very calculated move from Fujimoto because in heaven the Angels and Archangels are the ones who interact the most with humanity. That’s why when the Angel devil was introduced, he was described as “a unique case who isn’t hostile towards humans”, since he literally represents the Angels who are closest to mankind. Anyway sitting to the right of him in the hallway is Princi the spider devil, who represents the order of Principalities, otherwise known as the ranking just above archangels. Next to her is Power the blood devil who represents a group of warrior Angels known as Powers. In fact, as you go through each follower of chainsaw man from left to right, they all have names that are derived in some way from the hierarchy of angels. This strongly implies that Pochita’s true identity is in some way connected to "heaven". When Makima used Angel’s power against Chainsaw Man, we could see the sheer power the angel devil was holding back. But what is the source of Angel’s immense power? A devil’s strength is determined by how feared their names are and angels aren’t really feared, in fact they are a symbol of hope and protection. To add to that, the angel devil’s powers don’t really relate to anything angelic in nature. But here I may have the truth the author is hiding from us, I believe the Angel Devil is lying about his identity, the devil that he represents, is a concept so feared even today that it even has an established word for the fear of it. Homophobia. The Angel Devil is actually the Homosexuality Devil or Gay Devil. Hold your horses, you may be saying. Despite the lack of continuity in his powers, the angel devil’s appearance clearly has angelic characteristics, take the halo and his wings. To add to that, in chapter 74 it is revealed that the Angel Devil previously had a girlfriend, so how is he homosexual. Well, angel never really stated his partner’s gender, so they may have just been a femboy; and sure, Angel did have both wings and halo, but he is very femininly attractive in appearance to the point where he was at one point in Denji’s strike zone until denji learned that angel is actually male. The angel devil’s feminine appearance may be symbolism for the tendency for gay people to display themselves femininely to attract males. In fact, even Aki’s hatred for devils was put aside very fast after he interacted with the angel devil more, many theorists speculate that he developed an attraction for angel, and the feelings were discreetly reciprocated, based on their fruity interactions. Maybe another hidden power of the Angel Devil is to attract Males. Okay, it seems like I was babbling like a madman while addressing those counterpoints, so let me get to my definitive proof on how the Angel Devil is actually the Homosexuality Devil. His powers. His main power is to draw out the lifeforce of anyone he has skin-to-skin contact with, even until the victim dies. This could represent Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and the strong association of them with homosexuals by the public. Plus, the angel devil could only draw out your lifeforce with skin-to-skin contact, this represents unprotected sex spreading STDs without a prophylactic. Plus one of the angel devil’s powers is that anyone cut with his 5 years usage sword will die. Anyone touching his sword will die? It’s kind of on the nose at this point. The second ability of the angel devil is to summon swords. Now, how is this in relation to Homosexuality. Well, think of the male sexual organ, the penis, which has many euphemisms related to swords. Such as the act of 2 males fencing each other with their phalluses, known as swordfighting, which is also a homosexual act. It may seem like I’m grasping at straws here, but think about this strawman, where do the angel devil’s swords come from? His halo. Swords go through his HOLE. Do I need to spell it out to you.
